Long time member and former Director and Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Boca Raton Sunrise, Chris Maners wanted to raise money for the final push of the Polio Plus program. Following a mid-life career change and subsequently earning a Bachelor of Music degree in music composition and production, Chris decided to use his new skills to raise funds for this keystone Rotary effort.
THE MUSIC PROJECT
Obtaining the generous donation of time, talent and facilities from his fellow university classmates and faculty advisors, Chris conceived of and produced the holiday themed “An Equatorial Christmas”. This “World Music” themed concept album features seven arrangements by Chris in styles from around the globe and the signature original song entitled “Merry Music ‘Round the World”. Looking back on the Merry Music song writing process Chris remembers, “I wanted to write a song that tried to capture the warmth and contentment that the holidays can bring, even if you are far away from home at the moment.. It really makes me think of the selflessness of so many Rotarians in raising money and traveling the world to eradicate the plague of Polio. That’s why I’m donating 50% of everything the album earns until Polio Plus is 100% successful.”
MAKING IT HAPPEN
Using what he had learned about the business side of the “music business”, Chris was able to limit the cost of producing a physical CD such that Polio Plus will receive $3+ for every album sold and even more for the MP3 digital download version of the album. An Equatorial Christmas is now available for anyone to purchase on iTunes, Amazon and other digital music sources around the globe.
“I want other Rotary Clubs to know that producing music to raise money for service projects is much easier than they imagine and is such a rewarding process to take part in. Everyone loves music, and producing an album of songs that move both themselves and their local communities to do good is such a win-win! I encourage Rotarians reading this to download your own "how to" instructions HERE or visit my album website listed below to see how it easy it is to make your very own music fundraising project happen.”
